The People United March & Protest
On February 5th, 2025 we experienced an amazing gathering of diverse voices—parents, educators, community workers, activists, and many others—who came together in support of our cause. We were pleased to know that more than 100 people came to march and show support. During the protest we were told that eight TPS schools held their own walkouts. On February 5th 2025, protests were held in all 50 states at the state capitals on one day! This event is known as 50501.
City officials were in attendance, listening to our concerns, while even those passing by chose to join us in our demonstration.
Significance of February 5th:
This date was selected to commemorate Constitution Day in Mexico and to highlight key milestones in Black history. On February 5th, 1968, the Kerner Commission Report was unveiled, analyzing the root causes of racial unrest in the 1960s and exposing systemic racism in America. Additionally, in 1972, the Black Panther Party made significant strides in tackling issues within Black communities.
Our Collective Stand:
Our protest covered a wide array of issues. We came together to voice our shared feelings of anger, fear, and sadness. Young people voiced their worries about the challenges of growing up in the current climate, and we stood with them, chanting for our rights to be acknowledged and accepted.
Looking Ahead:
This event marks the start of our ongoing efforts. We are dedicated to advocating for justice and fostering change.
